2019 Makeup Trends

Keep an open mind and know that trends aren’t for everyone. I’m a huge proponent to taking something mainstream and making it your own, so as you read through these trends think about fun ways to incorporate them that is authentic to who YOU are.

Makeup Trends for 2019

Happy 2019! I am so excited to share some of my favorite makeup trends that you’ll be seeing a lot of this year.

When this year’s Pantone color of the year was announced I was really excited as coral is a great way to give yourself a fresh pick me up!
— Jessica Mae

Before we dive in, I encourage you to keep an open mind and know that trends aren’t for everyone. I’m a huge proponent to taking something mainstream and making it your own, so as you read through these trends think about fun ways to incorporate them that are authentic to who YOU are. This year you will notice the common theme of pops of color, some fun with glitter and neutral tones on the eyes. So let's do this! But first, follow me on Facebook for my live tutorials and product reviews.

The Power Lip

For me, nothing turns my day around or puts me into state quite like a power lip! One of my ultimate favs to rock is Nevermore from Elixery. If you’re new to a bold lip and feel intimidated… try sheering out the color with some clear gloss to make it a bit more translucent and less of a pow when you’re getting a feel for what works for you with this look. Another tip … when rocking a power lip the intention is that our lips are the statement piece, honor that by making the rest of your makeup more subdued.

Power Lip!

Bring out your inner boss babe in 2019!

Pantone Color of the Year: Living Coral.

When this year’s Pantone color of the year was announced I was really excited as coral is a great way to give yourself a fresh pick me up! I’ve found the easiest way to do this is to pop some coral onto the lips and cheeks. My favorite product is Ingenue lipstick from Elixery Cosmetics in Minneapolis. It’s the perfect coral shade for most skin tones and bonus…it doubles as a cheek stain! Who doesn’t love that? If your’e feeling a little extra, find your favorite coral shadow and pop some on your lids too! Tip: if you’re new to using a lipstick as a cheek stain start by putting a little on your finger tips and patting it onto the apples of your cheeks. Then blend blend blend. A little goes a long way.

All. The. Glitter.

I know what you’re thinking…”glitter? really?”. Yes, really! Glitter is a super fun way to add a little pop of glam to your look. It can get out of hand so that’s why I recommend practicing in a controlled environment preferably away from fans and small children…haha I’m kidding. But really, glitter can get crazy so I do recommend the Statement Palette from Beauty Counter. This is an awesome palette that has a mixture of matte and shimmer shadows, but it also has an awesome glitter shadow that is pretty much fool proof.

Tip: Sweep a little of Beauty Counter’s Crown on your lids alone for a fun glitter look that’s appropriate for the office or anywhere you plan to be!

No Makeup, Makeup

This trend has been gaining popularity for the last couple of years and 2019 will be no exception. I personally love this look for everything, it lets the world see the true beauty that you are! My favorite 3 products to create this look are:

War 14.jpg

Beautiful You

Showcase your natural beauty!

Taupe Smokey Eyes.

You’ll be seeing a lot of neutral tones on the eyes in 2019. My favorite is this new take on an oldie but goodie, the smokey eye. Typically a smokey eye includes tones of greys, charcoals and black, but this year we are seeing taupe as the the smokey element to this look. I personally feel this makes a smokey eye look way more versatile because neutral taupe tones are a lot softer and can be worn at work but also works for night on the town. You can keep the smoke nice and light or deepen it for a more dramatic effect as well. To perfect this look I love the Classic Palette from Beauty Counter.

How To Keep Your Makeup From Running When You're Sweaty

Any woman who’s performed in front of a crowd knows how stressful it can be. The human body is a marvelous, powerful thing, but it tends to react in the extreme when we’re faced with any stress of our own. This leads to one of makeup’s biggest enemies: sweat.

How to keep makeup from running

Any woman who’s performed in front of a crowd knows how stressful it can be. The human body is a marvelous, powerful thing, but it tends to react in the extreme when we’re faced with any stress of our own. This leads to one of makeup’s biggest enemies: sweat.

When makeup is up against so many odds from bright, hot lights to sweaty skin, how do you keep your makeup looking it’s best? How do celebrities preserve their perfect looks on the red carpets and when it’s heating up on sets? What about the performers and dancers of the world who break a sweat during their time on stage? Here are tips from the experts for keeping your makeup from running when you’re sweaty.

How To Keep Your Makeup From Running When You're Sweaty

Start with a primer

If your makeup doesn’t have the right base, it’ll be more likely to slide right off your face. Just like when you paint a wall in your house, you have to start with a fresh coat of primer. While your face isn’t exactly a wall, the same principle applies. If you’re prone to oily skin or excessive sweat, you especially should consider using a primer.

When selecting a face primer, opt for one built for your skin type. If you’re prone to oil, choose a mattifying or smoothing primer which will keep your face from getting that shiny look. If you have a lot of redness, opt for a color correcting primer with green undertones.

Choose your foundation wisely

You don’t want to overdo it with your foundation when you’re likely to be sweating. For example, if it’s the height of summer on your wedding day, don’t go for the heaviest coverage you can find. These will only bleed down your face throughout the day. Instead, opt for powder or airbrush makeup. Powder makeup is lighter and stays put much more effectively than liquid foundation.

Additionally, airbrush makeup provides consistent, moderate coverage without appearing heavy. Because it’s applied in a very fine mist, it has a stronger staying power. Airbrushed makeup lasts longer and feels lighter. Because it allows your pores to breath, you’re less likely to feel overheated throughout the day.

Don’t listen to makeup that claims to be sweat-proof. Natural, high-quality makeup is naturally sweat-proof. Because it contains talc as a binding agent, it has natural abilities to stick to your skin without sliding throughout the day. This is yet another reason to be meticulous when selecting the right foundation for your needs.

How To Keep Your Makeup From Running When You're Sweaty

Set your makeup

Finally, your makeup needs to be set after application to guarantee it stays where you want it. Using a setting powder will help absorb any excess oil and sweat, so it’s a great first layer. Aside from setting powder, a setting spray will add another barrier between your makeup and the outside world.

Look for a setting spray that doesn’t have any alcohol on the ingredients list. Using a setting spray with alcohol is drying to the face which can cause cracks in your foundation. You wouldn’t risk driving without insurance, would you? Why would you waste your makeup without setting it with powder and spray?

Be prepared to blot

No matter what you do, some sweat might still sneak through. This is okay if you’re prepared with the right tools for touching up your look. It might be tempting to jump right to re-applying your makeup when you see signs of it slipping, but don’t start there. It’s smarter to blot with oil blotting paper or a paper towel to get rid of excessive oil before you touch up your look. If you skip this step, there won’t be much for your makeup to stick to.

Look to the pros

Finally, take a hint from the professionals. Dancers, for example, rock their full-faces of makeup despite harsh lights and high stress. They use professional-level makeup to make sure they have perfect performances every time. Alexandra has the perfect dance shoes just as professional dancers use high-quality makeup and professional application.

If you’re planning for your big day, whether it’s a performance or even your wedding day, you might consider professional help. A qualified makeup artist can help you establish a sweat-proof beauty routine. In the meantime, use the tips above to keep your face looking fresh all day long.

The Bachelor's Emily Simms Real Wedding Story

The Love Story… Pierre and Emily first met at Pontoon, a trendy bar on St Kilda beach (the old Riva). Emily went there with her friend Anna (one of her bridesmaids), and as soon as they walked in, she said, “oh there’s my friend Pierre at the bar!”.

The Bachelor's Emily Simms And Pierre Ghougassian's Get Married

Wedding Date: August 17th, 2018
Guests: 100
Wedding Budget: $55,000, with a number of collaborations.

The Love Story

How did you and your partner meet?

Pierre and I first met at Pontoon, a trendy bar on St Kilda beach (the old Riva). I went there with my friend Anna (one of my bridesmaids), and as soon as we walked in, she said, “oh there’s my friend Pierre at the bar!”.  Turns out she used to be very good friends with a girl that dated Pierre for 2 years, about 9 years ago.

How did he propose?

Pierre’s birthday is the 14th of February, Valentine’s Day, and I had arranged to take him out for dinner at The George on Collins.  He suggested we get a nice photo out the front before we go in.  So, we asked a nice passerby if they could please take a photo for us.  He then turned to me and proposed.  The lady taking our photo, switched it to video mode, so we have both photos and videos of the gorgeous moment.

The wedding

How did you find the experience of planning a wedding? From where did you take your inspiration?

I was always very clear about what I wanted, and Pierre likes my taste, so he trusted me in choosing everything.  As we only got engaged in February, and our wedding was August, we decided on things very quickly.  The style I went with, was glamorous and a sort of antique feel.  The George Ballroom where our reception was, is simply stunning, so not much needed to be done to the room.  We had simple garlands down the centre of the long tables, and arrangements around the welcome sign, seating chart, bar and wedding cake.  I did find all of the planning incredibly stressful at times, as I was doing everything by myself.  It is like a full-time job!  So much coordinating, and of course every bride wants it to all go perfectly, so the stress of that all adds up.

Please describe your wedding ceremony: Where was it?

Our ceremony was on the balcony of the Melbourne Town Hall.  I loved the columns, and I found it in keeping with the style of The George Ballroom.  I really wanted everything to flow nicely.

How many guests were there?

We had exactly 100 guests. We wanted only our closest friends and family there.

Did it involve anything unusual?

I suppose the only thing considered unusual was that our wedding was very bitter sweet for us.  My beautiful older brother had taken his own life only 3 weeks prior to our wedding, so it was incredibly difficult, and when it first happened, I couldn’t even comprehend the thought of a wedding.  But I like to think he was there, shining down on us.  It was also the only day that week of really beautiful weather (for the middle of August!), and I like to think that was Michael’s doing.

Where was your reception held?

Our reception was at The George Ballroom in St Kilda, with 100 guests. The George is simply amazing.  It is by far the most beautiful venue I think I have seen in Melbourne.  The way they have restored it is so divine, it was the perfect setting for our wedding day.

Did you employ a certain style or theme for the day?

I tried to stick with a glamorous, old world sort of theme.  I was adamant about there being no black, and there wasn’t any at all.  Everything was white, cream, soft pinks and rich, deep pinks.  The florist really outdid herself!  The cutlery, the napkins, everything just worked exactly the way I had hoped it would.

Please describe your bridal gown, your husband’s suit and your bridesmaids’ dresses:

My gown was designed and made by Tanya Didenko Bridal Couture. I have dealt with Tanya for 3 years now.  She has made me some stunning dresses to wear to various events over the past few years, so it was a no brainer that I would go to her for my wedding dress.  I never tried on any wedding dress at all.  I went to her with photos of different designs that I liked, and took inspiration from each of them.  She knows me quite well now, knows my body shape and knows my style, so it all worked really well. The groomsmen’s suits were made by Remy, who is actually Pierre’s youngest brother.  He owns a bespoke tailoring business, situated in Sydney.  The bridesmaids’ dresses were all designed by Love Honor.  I sent them through a number of inspiration shots, and they made them exactly as we had discussed, and they fit the girls perfectly.

Please describe your flowers (colour, variety, type of bouquet):

I told the lovely Nat from Foxy Evergreen, that I didn’t want standard flowers.  I can’t stand your average old rose.  I was quite specific about that.  The one flower I told her I absolutely wanted, was phalaenopsis orchids in a magenta sort of colour.  And no Australian natives!  All whites, soft pinks, deep pinks and lots of greenery.  I also told her I didn’t like a posy of flowers.  I like the cascading sort of look.  We couldn’t have been happier with her work.

ATEIA Photography & Video - www.ATEIAphotography.com.au - Wedding Photography Melbourne (501 of 1356).jpg

Please describe your photographer’s services. Did you choose a certain style of photography (i.e. b&w, nostalgic, candid, photojournalism)?

Ramy from Ateia was amazing.  He was so easy to deal with, from start to end.  I think may words to him when we first met were, no 90’s style glamour shots please!  I’ve seen so many bridal shots that seem to go for this look, and that is definitely not our style.  I wanted it romantic, glamorous and fashionable, without looking dated.

Who did your make up?

I did my own. (Emily Simms makeup), my maid of honour did her own (though she isn’t actually a MUA).  Amelia Webb did Anna’s and Bec’s makeup.

ATEIA Photography & Video

ATEIA Photography & Video

What music or entertainment did you use/provide?

We chose Main Entertainment for all of our music.  We found Isaac via a Google search, and he was outstanding.  He has a beautiful voice, and sung live acoustics for our ceremony and during different parts of our reception. He then turned into a DJ later on in the night.  I can’t recommend him highly enough.  Not only is he incredibly talented, he is also a fantastic guy and great to deal with.

What cake did you choose and what did it look like?

We chose a cake from Nikos Cakes.  We went for 2 different layers, one vanilla citrus and one vanilla berry.  We opted against chocolate cakes, as we had some chocolate and coffee dessert canapés.  We chose the 3-tier cake, mostly because Nikos suggested that because both Pierre and I are quite tall.  I wasn’t sure what difference it made, but it did look great!  We had a white rendered cake, with gold foil on the bottom and top tier.

Please describe your honeymoon:

We have just left arrived in Bali for our honeymoon, for 10 days. 4 nights in Ubud, the rest in Seminyak. Last month we went to LA, NYC and Toronto as a pre-honeymoon holiday, so we could only take a short trip after the wedding, due to work commitments.

What was the highlight of the day?

The highlight of the day, was definitely when we first saw each other down the aisle, and walking down the aisle with my dear old dad.  It was a beautiful moment, and one I will never forget.

Please share your best wedding advice:

My best advice is to make sure you know what you want, before you go talking to suppliers.  Scour the net, Pinterest etc, for inspo.  If you don’t know exactly what you are after, then I feel this is where confusion can start to creep in, and you become unsure if you’ve chosen the right thing or not.  You need to be clear and concise, so that you don’t feel disappointed on your big day.  Think about yours and your partner’s taste, and try your best to emulate that on your wedding day.

Congratulations!

Congratulations!

More Women Are Bringing Hair & Makeup To The Delivery Room

More and more women are hiring beauty services on-site in one place you might have thought of - the delivery room. It's no secret that women feel better when they look better and that is our goal with delivering hair and makeup services to new mothers.

Birthing Center Beauty Services

More and more women are hiring beauty services on-site, in one place you might not have thought of - the delivery room.

You might not think of yourself as a celebrity, or rather one who needs to be camera-ready 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, but whether you realize it or not we have all celebritized ourselves in some small way by living out our lives on social media. So when celebrity stars are booking beauty professionals to come into the birthing center to have their hair and makeup done, it might seem to be "too much" or not for you. The truth is, the trend took off quite some time ago and WarPaint International has been beautifying new moms for their after-delivery photo sessions for a couple of years now. And though we've worked with the wives of professional athletes from the Minnesota Vikings and Minnesota Wild, there are certainly women without A-list status booking WarPaint Artisans in the delivery room too.

WPI Founder, Jessica Mae, started her mission with this beauty agency with the idea that Life is a stage - "Prepare For Battle". This growing trend of delivery room beauty services couldn't be more grounded in our tagline.

More Women Are Bringing Hair & Makeup To The Delivery Room

When to book

Today we will always see new mothers sharing photos of their newborn baby in the delivery room, whether it be on social media, their photo albums on their phone or in their home. What image would you like your friends and family to see? There's simply no reason to LOOK like you just went through labor when you don't have to.

Hair is not the only focus - many moms are now also reporting calling in on-site makeup artists to finish the look in the delivery room.

Many women look back at their memories from the hospital and wish they would have looked a bit more put together, as they'll be sharing and reminiscing about those memories for the rest of their life. Maybe you'd like to hang it on your bedroom wall or in the baby's room.

Media outlets across the United States have reported on the growing trend of stylists arriving at hospitals with their kits of curling irons, hair sprays, etc to style a new mom's hair after labor, but before photos. Hair is not the only focus though - many moms are now also reporting calling in on-site makeup artists to finish the look. Presumably you don't want to do it yourself...

Photo Credit: makeupbyalaha via US Magazine

So when is the time to call on these beauty professionals? Some women have their beauty team glam them up during labor because their focus is that moment directly after birth with their newborn baby. Some have hired a professional photographer to come into the delivery room sometime after birth to get newborn photos after they've decompressed from this major life event. The later seems like a less stressful plan, but it's entirely up to you and your baby.

Look like yourself

If you follow the stars, you probably haven't forgotten Kate Middleton stepping out in high heels and with perfectly bouncy hair after delivering newborn Charlotte?  Other stars such as Beyonce emerged form childbirth with a head of voluminous, shiny curls while holding baby Blue Ivy years back.

PHOTO VIA ED BURKE FOR BEYONCE.COM

PHOTO VIA ED BURKE FOR BEYONCE.COM

So let's be clear - you don't need to keep up with the Jones's. Celebrity personalities are followed by the media everywhere they go. Whether they look good or shabby, it's never quite right and always news-worthy. So they opt to be fabulous and drive the standard - whether they like it or not. It's just part of the job.

You're not a celebrity. So we've identified you're not a celebrity, therefore, it's not about waving at the cameras as you leave the birthing center. You want to look like you, but with a fresh face and nice hair. That's really the focus of what we're talking about here and as a professional beauty agency catering to these growing needs, this is where we come in. So what are our tips and advice for bringing on-site beauty services into the delivery room?

No lashes and bold colors

If your focus is to capture the memory than keep it all about you. You will already have a natural glow and smile that surfaces only once or twice in a lifetime. We would never prescribe a red carpet look or something you might do for a night on the town. That's not you - that's a version of you that isn't having a baby. Most of the clients that we work with in birthing centers keep it simple with a fresh, natural face and nicely manicured hairstyle.

Embrace the comfort

It's true, some clients report that there is comfort in having beauty services done either during their delivery or directly after. Women that can't comprehend having this done often have the comment that they wouldn't want people in their face and it's too excessive, but for some the opposite is true. Some moms report feeling reduced nerves and actually being able to focus on the pampering vs the labor. For those that hire beauty-on-demand services to come in after childbirth with their photographer, there seems to be a whole new level of luxury and relaxation in the beautifying process. It's really all about making mom comfortable.

Trust in your team

Should you opt for delivery room beauty services, you have to put trust in your team. You've sourced a professional or two.. you've hired them for the job. Now, just relax and let them take care of you - trust me when I tell you that they are having a memorable life experience alongside you that can not be replicated the same way again with anyone else. Memories and relationships are all that you have.

Keep it about feeling your best

Ultimately, labor is a grueling experience, even with painkillers. It's no secret that women feel better when they look better and that is our goal with delivering hair and makeup services to new mothers. Because although looking and feeling better is a key element for your photo memories, feeling really good about yourself and how you reflect on your memories is what it's all about.

Why Should You Hire a Beauty Agency

Well, not all beauty agencies are built the same. In fact, many are not agencies - they are freelance artists who contract a few other people. Whether you are a new mom, a bride-to-be or hiring on-site services in your home or office, there are many factors to consider outside the skillset or reputation of a particular artist.

How about your safety? How about the safety of your family and loved ones? At WarPaint International, our team goes through an onboarding process that we believe to be unique. At first, we interview our Artisans, we then technically test them for skillsets, customer service and hygiene practices with products, brushes, etc. From there, our Hair Stylists and Makeup Artists go through national criminal background checks. We look for everything and we do turn people down because we hold a very high standard when it comes to trust and safety in our client's homes, hotel rooms, delivery rooms and offices.

Are you looking for trusted beauty professionals? You can learn more about us and the benefit of an agency at Why WarPaint International.

The epic and now iconic movie Black Panther hit the box office on Thursday, February 15th. It broke records, bringing in a whopping $218 million during the first weekend alone. According to stats, most of the moviegoers responsible for driving its achievements were women. It seems the ladies made up about 45% of the film’s audience. But, it’s the beautiful Melanated queens of Black Panther that seem to be driving its awesome success.

Who Are Black Panther’s Melanated Queens?

Black Panther’s plot defies conventional movies related to superheroes. Salamishah Tillet of the University of Pennsylvania told The Hollywood Reporter that the movie definitely passes the Bechdel test, which measures the sustainability of a film’s female characters. Tillet says that it’s:

…those scenes in which two or more women are talking to, disagreeing with, or fighting alongside each other without a man present are some of the movie’s most riveting ones.

The Melanated queens of Black Panther have become inspirations for women across the globe. They have taken part in a film that has transformed them into true women of history.

Black Panther, also known as King T’Challa, is a character in the fictional African nation known as Wakanda, with many Black queens in his life:cesses behind making lipstick. You can see in my response to her above that the appointment was set and did our visit together on Friday, March 2nd at 4pm.

  • Angela Bassett plays his mother, Queen Ramonda. She inspires her son to become a leader, even when he doubts himself.
  • Letitia Wright plays his younger sister, Shuri. This feisty young lady is Wakanda’s smartest resident and is responsible for the innovative technology of the nation.
  • Danai Gurira, Lupita Nyong'o, Sydelle Noel & Florence Kasumba play the roles of lady bodyguards. They are a part of an all-women team called the Dora Milaje.
  • Lupita Nyong'o plays the role of Nakia, T’Challa’s on-again, off-again love, a woman spy and a member of the Dora Milaje forces.
  • Danai Guriraplays Okoye who is the Dora Milaje’s general. She’s also Wakanda’s head of intel and armed forces for the nation.
  • Sydelle Noel plays Xoliswa, another woman of the Dora Milaje forces of Wakanda. Noel also stars on the GLOW Netflix series.
  • Florence Kasumba plays the role of Ayo. She acts as King T’Challa’s head of security on the Dora Milaje team.

And, these are just some of the instrumental women characters of the box office hit. The film’s director, Ryan Coogler, says he intentionally allowed the Melanated queens of Black Panther to shine together and individually. It was his goal to surround King T’Challa with amazing, powerful women.

Not only do the women of Black Panther play powerful roles, they are an awesome mix off-screen as well. Here are some of our favorite red carpet moments for these gorgeous Melanated queens:

Lupita Nyong’o on the Red Carpet

Some say Lupita Nyong’o brings magic to the film, the big screen and the red carpet. She always looks stunning at every celebrity event she attends. And, she killed it at the film’s premiere. Check her out in this plum-colored Versace gown, embellished with numerous jewels. She paired it with Giuseppe Zanototti heels.

Danai Gurira on the Red Carpet

International Women's Day is a celebration of ladies, our beauty, our significance and our power. It’s about the political, economic, social and cultural achievements of women. For this celebration, Danai Gurira made sure she was heard as she stepped into the United Nations' Observance of International Women's Day sporting a buzz cut and pink lipstick that’s both bold and trendy.

Angela Bassett on the Red Carpet

The Beverly Hilton Hotel was swarming with talented notables for the 2018 American Black Film Festival Honors Awards. And, Angela Bassett was no exception. She celebrated African American film talents wearing a Mangishi Doll dress that made her look like a true Melanated queen of Wakanda. It comes from an Afro-centric clothing line and cost a mere $169.

In the movie Black Panther, Florence Kasumba plays a bad @$$ woman warrior. And, when she stepped onto the red carpet for the film’s premiere, she looked the part. During Black Panther’s world premiere, Sydelle Noel dazzled the red carpet with her golden goddess look. Her Marc Bouwer gown featured cutouts that left her shoulders and chest playing peek-a-boo. The shimmering look was paired with a super-high ponytail, fit for a Melanated queen.

This 5th Grade Girl Makes Custom Lipstick At Elixery Cosmetic House

The single most memorable thing a young student may do in their elementary career is to send a letter to a business owner that they are inspired by in hopes of a response. When Luna wrote to me, I gave her an afternoon that little girls dream of Elixery Cosmetic House.

Luna's visit to Elixery Cosmetics in Minneapolis.

The single most memorable thing a young student may do in their elementary career is to send a letter to a person or business owner that they are inspired by in hopes of a response. Many schools give this assignment to their young students to help train the idea of communication, patience, and thanks. Not to mention, it's a fun project to see if they'll get a response.

Somewhere in the middle of January 2018 one such letter came to me from Luna, a fifth-grade girl from Seven Hills Preparatory Academy. Her mother is Wendy, a talented Artisan on our team. I was flattered by the fact that Luna, not only knows who I am but that she looks to me as a role model. Here is her letter that I received in the mail in January.

A reply to Luna

Luna's letter was so sweet and all she was asking for was a reply, which qualified her for extra credit and some high fives. I replied to her, answered her questions about how lipstick is made and sent her a box of goodies, including a WarPaint International Artisan T-shirt, business cards and some makeup samples. She had also requested my autograph which I happily supplied.

The big surprise...

As a bonus, I reached out to my dear friends at Elixery Cosmetic House in Minneapolis and scheduled an appointment for Luna to meet me for a personal tour of their apothecary and the processes behind making lipstick. You can see in my response to her above that the appointment was set and did our visit together on Friday, March 2nd at 4pm.

Jessica Mae introduces Luna at Elixery Cosmetics in Minneapolis for her personalized tour of how lipstick is made.

Learning how to make lipstick

Luna was really interested in the process of how makeup is made, but more importantly how to make lipstick. Elixery Cosmetics rolled out the red carpet for her and gave her an immersive learning experience. We started with some education in which Luna took copious notes.

Next step - hands-on

After Luna learned a little bit about how makeup and lipstick are made, she was given the opportunity to get hands-on and make her own custom lipstick!

Elixery owner, Karoline, pours a custom lipstick concoction into the mold.

Once the lipstick has cooled, then Karoline scraps the top layer of the lipstick off the mold to eliminate excess product. Then, it goes back on the cooling block for 15 minutes or so. The whole process - from pouring to removing the individual lipsticks from takes about 30 minutes.

Karoline removes the excess product by scraping the top of the mold for an even base on the individual lipsticks.

Removing the individual lipsticks

Once the mold has cooled long enough and its ready to remove, the process of seeing individual lipstick get put together comes to life. Luna got to open the mold and see the makeup molded into real lipsticks that have been custom made just for her. Once they've been placed into a lipstick tube, Michael (the Lead Flamer), flames each tube by hand for the purpose of making the lipstick look shiny and pretty.

* Yes, every single lipstick tube that Elixery Cosmetic House produces gets torched by hand by Michael. Michael and Karoline are a husband and wife team who founded and operate Elixery together.

Luna's big reveal

At the end of the day, Luna had made herself a custom lipstick in Elixery Cosmetic House's apothecary. What a thrill for a 5th-grade girl looking forward to her many years a fashionista! I am excited to share her adventure with you and it was a true pleasure getting to work with Luna for the day and introduce her to the amazing people at Elixery Cosmetics.

Making lipstick is a tough job, but at the end of the day someone has to be in the makeup business. I think Luna just found her life's passion.

Top 10 Reasons to Hire Makeup Artists and Hair Stylists on your Wedding Day.

Have you considered the top reasons to hire a professional makeup artist or hair stylist for your wedding day? How about a Beauty Agency? Would your freelance artist pass a criminal background check? Here are our Top 10 reasons to hire a pro and some reasons to book your wedding with WarPaint International.

Top Reasons to Hire Beauty Professionals on your Wedding Day

A Beauty Professional's Point of view.

So, you're doing your own hair and makeup...

Have you considered the reasons to hire a makeup artist or hair stylist for your wedding day? While there are many reasons to hire a makeup artist AND hair stylists for your wedding, they are all rooted in looking your best on your special day. Your wedding will be forever remembered through wedding photographs and the hiring of professional artists will help ensure that you are flawless and beautiful the day of and in the lasting memories of the event.

Furthermore, the benefits of a Beauty Agency vs. freelance artists are numerous. Considering the financial commitment and high expectations, the "beauty" of not worrying about the last minute proverbial bus - sickness, criminal backgrounds, poor character, or other hurdles - is a benefit that only reputable agencies can provide. Read our top 10 reasons why you need a professionally vetted makeup school graduate and hair stylist on your wedding day.

1. Be stress-free on your wedding day

Of all the reasons to hire a professional makeup artist and hair stylist for your wedding day, this may be the single most important benefit. Take it from experienced brides... your wedding day is guaranteed to be busy and will likely include a few unexpected challenges, so don’t let your appearance be one of them. You shouldn’t have to spend time worrying if your eyeliner is straight while ensuring that your vendors deliver on time. Any reputable artist that is a professional will meet with you prior to your wedding day to do a trial run of the makeup look or hairstyle you want. On the day-of, your beauty team rolls in, on location, and knows your skin type, your desired outcome, your theme, and any complications in the trial.

P.S. Your photographer will love you for it

See how your booking process looks with WarPaint International Beauty Agency.

The Bride Experience. Your booking process with WarPaint International Beauty Agency.

2. You want to look "natural"

Professional makeup artists study the art of their craft. They live it and breathe it like a musician, and the proper selection of colors is part of their DNA. From your foundation to your lips to the perfect eyeliner, makeup artists know how to choose the colors that match your unique character and features. Your wedding day will keep you photographed, possibly more than any day in your life. High definition optics can do some interesting things to your complexion and pores.

Even if you tend to live in the "natural" state and your photographer does to, find a makeup artist that specializes in "natural" looks so that your memories and face-to-face interactions are striking and memorable. The natural look is far more involved than most brides think. In fact, what most people categorize as difficult is the avant-garde, high-fashion looks you see all over the internet. If this were the case, more Instagram makeup artists would be showcasing breathtaking, natural looking brides than stamping out glorified brows and winged eyeliner.

3. Professional grade products that last

Like it or not, there is a big difference behind mainstream, less expensive makeup and hair products vs. professional grade products that have been engineered for specific applications. Since makeup artists apply cosmetics for a living and hair stylists test the quality of hair products every single day, most have a kit stocked with high quality (and possibly very expensive) products that are designed for wearability and flexibility that you may not own or be able to afford. Not to mention, most artists endure years of professional training to keep up with the trends, techniques, and industry concerns. You simply can't put a price on their experience or the luxury and intimacy of having them apply it and perfect it. It is after all, what they live for - your beauty.

4. Just enjoy the day

Don't fool yourself. You likely don't have the experience mentioned in point number 3, and even if you do why in the world would you want to exercise it on your own wedding day? Experienced makeup artists practice the art of makeup every single day. Experienced hair stylists nearly double that rate. Professional makeup artists and hair stylists have painted hundreds, if not thousands, of faces and designed hair in dozens of eras, themes, and personal taste categories. If you’re not a makeup artist or hair stylist and you haven’t studied the proper methods of executing flawless looks that withstand heat, wind, tears and very long days, then pass on the notion that you'll save a few dollars. The key to being a perfect bride is to be yourself; that usually still requires professionals to extract that state and keep it there for your wedding day.

On a more important note, most brides envision their day beginning in an artist's chair with champagne in hand and the loving banter of their bridal party - not a stress-filled morning of racing the clock and no human interaction.

5. Application techniques

It's not that you don't already wake up looking breathtaking... We actually wouldn't change a thing about you. Industry professionals study tricks to emphasize a person’s best facial features while disguising other, less flattering ones just by applying makeup. Hair stylists have an in-depth knowledge of hair types and tendencies, scalp problems, and product benefits. If you want to really highlight your eyes for your big day, your makeup artist can use special makeup techniques to make that happen without caking on the product.

Want to pull off a bold lip color, but are afraid of transferring it onto your groom when its time to “kiss the bride”? A professional makeup artist can help prevent that, too. Scared of your hair flying away or falling due to heat? Yeah.. they've got that covered.

6. Ensuring perfection

This is one of the most important pieces since the bulk of your day will be spent saying "CHEESE". Experienced makeup artists and hair stylists will sculpt your look using contouring techniques to add the illusion of depth in 2-dimensional photographs and in real life. You instantly turn into a 2-dimensional image instead of a 3-dimensional being when your photo is taken. If you choose to not use a makeup artist or hair stylist, you're likely to be a flat image in your captured memories. If you use a makeup artist that is not experienced, or your makeup and hair are applied and styled improperly, you'll also appear flat and in some bad cases that we've seen - orange! Lastly, you don't want to appear shiny, gray, over, or underdone. Perfection is the key. You are perfect, right?

7. Product, product, product

Like we mentioned above, beauty professionals use high-quality products that are blended with rigorous expertise. When you a hire a makeup artist or hair stylists for your wedding, you won’t have to worry about your makeup wearing off during your wedding festivities or your hair falling from its form. There are special primers, setting sprays and powders that your artists will know exactly how to apply to ensure complete bliss. Your groom may also be appreciative at the end of the day :-)

8. A cohesive look

It is amazing how many women will visually match their friends for Halloween, themed parties, even "pajama parties" but when it comes to their wedding day - the one day everyone should look the same - they turn the other cheek. Think about the last wedding you attended (or even stood for) that had no beauty or dress direction, no orchestration, and no attention to detail. Though that may be the personality of the wedded couple, it certainly spells frustration for their guests and mixed feelings about their captured memories. If cost is a factor, skip the bachelorette party and treat your ladies to luxurious beauty. Nothing is more memorable than sitting back together in a bridal suite, sipping champagne, laughing and letting the professionals unfold your beauty desires. Stress-free is the key and your entrance and impact to your guests will be memorable.

9. Trial pains...

We said it above, but its a pain point for many. We've met brides that have paid in full for 3 or more trials and come to realize they were dealing with an amateur, or their sister's friend or aunt (who can do it for them) and walked away only spending more money on the right fit.

Demand a trial. No makeup artist or hair stylist can walk into your wedding day and smash it out of the park. This relationship is an intimate one and takes discovery questions and a few dry runs in some cases. Always, always have a makeup and hair trial. You'd hate to be orange from the chin up on your wedding day, or worse yet... your artist leaves for Vegas instead.

10. Wedding day beauty schedules

Hire a Beauty Agency. Yes there are talented, dedicated freelance individuals all of whom deliver endlessly, but they do get sick, have car accidents, run late, endure family deaths, etc, etc. When hiring a beauty agency, your selection of top professionals is much broader, but the security of not having a mishap with an artist on your wedding day is alleviated. Even if your artist gets hit by the proverbial bus, their trial notes and opinions are available to the agency and an artist that matches their skill-sets and schedule will simply step in to ensure a flawless wedding day for you as if nothing ever happened. At WarPaint International, we screen our artists, do technical interviews to test their skill level and work with a wide array of schedules.

Criminal background checks. We are also a national partner to Trusted Employees, so we criminally background check our Artisans across state and federal databases for background information. We have passed on applicants that work for our competitors or on their own. You wouldn't want a convicted felon in your home, hotel room or personal space scoping out their options. Be smart when hiring on-site professionals.

You may also find benefit in pre-wedding day skin care tips to ensure smooth delivery and a "day of" itinerary for your wedding party to follow and depend on. No one should have to ask "when is Jenny's hair getting done" or "when does this person arrive". We've got that covered. Project management comes at no extra cost and ensures that you look beautiful and we provide superior expertise and service on the most memorable day of your life.

SO... Will you be hiring a professional to do your makeup and/or hair on your wedding day? You won't regret it and though we recommend shopping around to find the perfect match for you and your bridal party, if you're looking for excellence in hair and makeup artistry with the added benefit of a wedding planner for your beauty needs, seek a beauty agency. Makeup Tips for Mature Women

Just because you are aging doesn’t mean that you can’t look beautiful anymore! Yes! Still, there’s a lot of chances to look pretty enough even if you are having strands of grey hair on your head or unattractive marks and wrinkles on your face. You just need to remember that the makeup rules which you lived by in your 20s or 30s don’t apply anymore. Instead, plump up your skin with these exclusive makeup tips!! Read on and enlighten yourself with these magic tricks.

Conceal your Fine Lines

When it comes to hiding your fine lines and wrinkles while you are aging, there is not a lotion or potion can make that happen. But, if you apply moisturizer before applying foundation and concealer then it will boost up your skin while making those fine lines disappear.

Moisturizing before applying your foundation can even help the process of apply evenly. Just ensure that you are using a premium quality moisturizer. You can buy such high-end products at an affordable rate while grabbing lucrative Beauty Brand coupons.

4 Makeup tips for Older women

Secretly Plump your Lips

It might seem to you that your lips are getting thinner as you grow older. If you want to accentuate them, using a lip gloss may be the best thing that you can do. Nothing can work better than this actually!

You just have to add a little color first while filling in your lips with a lip liner or lipstick which should be a shade or two darker than the natural lip color that you want to use. Finally, once you are done, dab a bit of gloss on the top. Voila! You got an instant lip plumper.

Use Eye Pencils Rather than Eyeliners

Eye pencils are far more soft than eyeliners. So, opt for it instead of a liner which could be harsh on your aging eyes. If you want to soften the lines even more then don’t forget to smudge it with your fingers. Moreover, if you have smaller eyes then don’t line the inside of the eye. It will make your eyes appear even smaller.

If you’re over 50, these makeup tips certainly can help spruce up your look naturally.
— Arina

Definitely, go for Primer

As one ages, you can expect that your skin will eventually suffer from one or another of skin conditions. Along with you, your skin is aging, so, primer becomes something very significant for you before you do your makeup. If you apply a layer of primer before your makeup and your skin then it will let your eyeshadow, foundation, mascara and everything else flawlessly flaunt itself.

Moreover, if you use shadows then I recommend using primers for your eyes. Also, if you are going to apply foundation then opting for a primer before that seems to be an obvious step.

End of the Line

If you're over 50, these makeup tips certainly can help spruce up your look naturally. Stand up straight, do your makeup with confidene, and look as stunning as you did on your sweet sixteen!

Project Runway's Samantha Rei On Being A Girl Boss

Minnesota has only produced a handful of Project Runway contestants, three to be exact. The Land of Lakes hasn't seen a designer on the reality show since Christopher Straub -- seven seasons ago. Samantha Rei is here to change that, the designer has been active in the Twin Cities fashion scene for almost two decades. Since graduating from Perpich Center for Arts Education, Samantha Rei became a catalyst for Lolita style in the US, directed fashion shows and competed on the hit design show, Project Runway.

Since appearing on the show, Samantha Rei has been getting her girl boss on by focusing on collaborations and and working on her new collection. It's amazing to think she almost didn't audition, we're glad she was nudged to give it one more go.

Interview - the personal stuff

Q: I read that fellow Minnesotan and Project Runway alum Christopher Straub urged you to audition one last time for the show. What did he say that convinced you to give it one more try?

Samantha Rei: He honestly urged me to do it every year, but this time was different because I had decided I wasn't going to. An amount of hair that made me self-conscious had broken off, and I wasn't feeling confident. He said, "Well slap on a hairpiece and make a video, because they've extended the deadline!" The next day I made a video and the rest is history. Also, I just wore my hair as is, in case you were wondering.

Well slap on a hairpiece and make a video, because they’ve extended the deadline!
— Christopher Straub

Q: In a GOMN article published in late September, it says you were one of the first Lolita designers in America. At the time, did you realize that? How did you get to the point of paving your own way?

Samantha Rei: All I knew was there were no stores in Japan willing to ship out of the country and I couldn't find what I wanted. I assumed it was hard to find, but I didn't realize until a few years later that it was myself and two others here in the US. Each season I just tried new things, tried to innovate and hone my skills. I encouraged other designers to do the same and grew the community the best way I could.

Q: Besides Lolita style, are there other aspects of Japanese popular culture you enjoy?

Samantha Rei: I like style tribes, the idea that people get together to like the same things and dress the same way. I like anime and manga (before discovering fashion, growing up I wanted to be a comic artist; I actually have another project in the works with manga-ka, Tomoko Taniguchi, which I'm excited about. I've worked with her before, but this is even more exciting). I used to love J-pop and Visual Kei when I was younger.

Q: What challenges have you had to overcome as a designer in today's overly digitalized and social media-driven society? How did you face them?

Samantha Rei: I'd say fast fashion has been detrimental. People want instant gratification, low prices and constant stimulation. I find I'm spending about as much time promoting myself on multiple platforms as I am creating. When I got started I really only promoted on my personal website and Livejournal. I also handed out flyers at local businesses. I'm glad the world is starting to get reacquainted with slow fashion. It's a breath of fresh air.

Q: In past interviews, you tell the story about being in a dressing room crying because the [fashion] industry didn't provide pieces you wanted/needed. Did you ever feel like you had to change in order to fit into the standards set by the industry?

Samantha Rei: Absolutely. Growing up, I physically matured a lot faster than the other girls and I already looked different, growing up in a predominately white town. I was told repeatedly that I was fat, boys didn't like me, I was bullied pretty hard so I didn't like myself much. As an adult I started to actually put on weight (I was very thin as a teen), and I felt like I was always in a state of trying to start a diet. It's weird, I did actually make a drastic life change around the time I turned 32 and over the next 2 years, lost 70 lbs.

I realized I liked myself more, not because I had gotten thinner, but because I was strong for the first time in almost two decades. I have since put on 25 lbs of the weight I lost, but the main thing I miss is my strength. I am confident in my skills shopping for and making clothes for myself. It took a really long time to get here, but I realize if I'm going to teach the next generation how to love themselves, I have to love myself. And I think I finally do.

Q: Young people often have a hard time feeling comfortable in their own skin and being their own person. Do you have any words of advice for those struggling?

Samantha Rei: Learn about yourself. Learn why you are self-conscious about XYZ. Is it because of what others are saying? I have learned it's usually because of outside elements. People knocking others down because THEY don't like themselves. Start with one thing you like about yourself. Then peel back the layers until you realize that every part of you is okay. That it's okay to like yourself.

The WarPaint international Foundation: Artisans Unite

Artisans Unite

Help young people with self-confidence and inner beauty.

Q: Is there a certain piece of clothing or accessory you feel most confident in? If so, what is it?

Samantha Rei: I really like the harnesses my design bestie Apatico makes for me. I also have a very favorite pair of boots. They are black and white steel toed boots from John Fluevog that make me feel like I can take on the world.

Q: You are a designer, author, trendsetter, business owner and now TV personality, how do you balance these different titles?

Samantha Rei: Honestly, I'm not happy unless I'm doing 5 million things. I try my best to keep a lot of lists, I take help when it's offered and I stay optimistic. I'm grateful that I have an amazing support system. I'm always looking for the next big thing to try!

Q: How do you go about forming business relationships and collaborating with other brands? Any tips for future girl bosses?

Samantha Rei: I don't fake it. I try to be as genuine as I can. I create relationships instead of "how can I use them"-ships. I feel like that's really why people trust me and like working with me. I think about how the relationship will be mutually beneficial. The biggest tip I would give is to be real and try your absolute best to offer your best in any situation.

Q: Before transferring to Perpich Center for Arts Education, you didn't have the best experience at your previous high school. What did you do to cope with being in that negative environment?

Samantha Rei: I spent a lot of time in Minneapolis with my brother and best friend. I made a lot of art and read of a lot of books.

Q: What about your experience at Perpich helped shape you as an adult?

Samantha Rei: It taught me that if I surround myself with positive people who are genuine and passionate about making good things, I can fit in anywhere. I learned that trying to fit into a place that would not accept me for me, was not worth it. I find myself sort of falling into that a bit as an adult and I always have to remind myself that there's no point in forcing relationships with people who are users.

Q: The theme for this season of Project Runway was to break out of the conventional modeling mold and to cater to all body types. Do you think you were at an advantage because of this?

So many women think there’s something wrong with the body they have.
— Samantha Rei

Samantha Rei: As far as my fit goes, absolutely. I was never afraid of making something I knew would fit. Even on the challenge where I was cut I was able to show how well I can tailor a garment to fit a client. One thing a lot of people don't realize, too, is being thin doesn't automatically get a person modeling work. If the proportions aren't "right" they might not get work. One of the girls even said that she had a hard time getting booked for a while because she had a booty. And she was thin! This is why so many women think there's something wrong with the body they have.

Q: Any advice for young people just starting out in a creative industry such as fashion?

Samantha Rei: Practice all the time and never stop learning. Strive to be better than you were yesterday. If you feel like you've learned it all, you're doing it wrong. And above all else, have fun! Creativity comes from many places, some bad, some good, but they are all transformative and you will grow from every experience.

It is important that you know all the subtleties that go into wedding nails in 2017.

The wedding involves a creative approach to nail art, using drawings, rhinestones, and paintings. The year 2017 is especially relevant to fashion and art during the all-important event where grooming the newlywed’s hands demand dexterity. If you are lacking in vision or just need to find out more about bridal nail trends, check out this list of eight best bridal nail trends that can also serve as a gift through services like Target Wedding Registry.

The Jeweled Embellishment

Nothing is more beautiful than that special moment when your husband slips that ring onto your finger. The ring is a symbol of eternal connection that should be offered the greatest honor. One way of honoring the ring is through adding special jeweled embellishments on the ring finger – and the extra adornment hints at the finger’s special job and significance in your life.

Embellishments are all the rage; the trend features a basic manicure in a single color like nail polish by Pink Gellac and special embellishments just on the ring finger. Not only is the trend gaining momentum in Miami and New York, but it is also a popular choice for women of every age.

Floral Elements

Maybe, your wedding is to take place outside, in a large church, or a beach. No matter your wedding’s venue, there will always be flowers around you. In most cases, flowers are incorporated into the veil, dress, décor, and bouquet; but this year, consider incorporating floral elements into your nail design.

If you love experimenting with your nails, then bright florals may be just what you want. The cute flowers will brighten up your beautiful attire as well as your bridal makeup. However, creating the look does require a steady hand and some good amount of practice – so, it can be challenging for your non-dominant hand.

Ombre Nails

Originally a hair color trend for many years, ombre has slowly worked itself into wedding nails. Like the hair craze, ombre nails are about creating a color gradient where a lighter color gradually blends into a darker one. Moreover, just like hair, finding the perfect ombre nail balance takes practice.

The process starts with prepping the nails with a base coat and picking three shades of the same color. Paint the lightest shade on the entire nail and use a makeup sponge dipped in the darkest color to paint from the tip of the nail down to about a third of the way. Sponge the shade that is between the other two to the middle of the nail, blending both colors together, and complete by applying a coat to smooth.

Crystalline Glitter

Another popular bridal phenomenon is the gorgeous crystal encrusted glitter nails. Highlighting your nails this way adds a special glamour and glitz to many different types of bridal traditions. This nail art also works at the reception just as it does during the main ceremony – imagine the sparkle when you lift your hand and your partner places the ring on your finger.

French Tip Manicure

Back in the 90s, French manicures were the rage, but fast forward to 2017 and they have made a comeback with a new look. Apart from changing the tip color, to making it look extremely edgy and adding a fun design, french manicures will have you shine as you stand at the altar. After all, weddings are about tradition and this wedding nail trend is the perfect way to embrace the best parts of your past and heritage while creating a new path into the future.

French manicure - top 8 nail trends

Nail Lace Cuff Effect

Delicate as lace, these gorgeous nails mimic the intricate lace designs that grace the cuff of bridal gowns. The lacework cuff effect embellishment is a popular bridal nail trend in 2017. You have the option of choosing this type of embellishment for every finger or make a subtle statement and only decorate a few.

Henna-Like Nail Embellishments

Inspired by the ancient cultures in Egypt and India, intricate henna patterns were originally painted on the skin, but they can also be reimagined on your nails. However, did you know that this form of nail art has been around for more than 7,000 years? These lovely nails will also look great on henna-covered hands or as part of the subtle decoration for brides from any cultural background.

Negative Space

The thing about this 2017 nail trend is that it involves letting your natural nail show through as is. However, the negative space nail trend means that your fingernails’ middle part is nude, decorating the tips or sides of the nails. The best look for you would be vertical or horizontal lines.

Tips to keep you relaxed on your wedding morning

Staying focused and relaxed on your wedding day is critical to making your big day succeed. Here are tips to assist you remain calm and relaxed.

Top Tips for a Relaxed Wedding Morning

Top tips for a relaxed wedding morning.

Insights on must-do things on your wedding day morning are critical for the success of such and auspicious occasion. The reason is that the wedding day is one of the most important events in the life of any human being who believes in the sanctity and dignity of marriage. Additionally, the morning of that day can cause many unexpected challenges that can disrupt or even cancel the wedding day.

At the very least, hand your phone to your maid of honor or a trusted friend and put them in charge of communication and basic decision making.

Here, many brides have different thoughts confronting them with “what ifs?”. Some of them worry about the possibility of the bridegroom showing up late while others about some misfortune befalling them or their bridegrooms.  Whatever the reason, you can make deliberate efforts to remain relaxed so that you approach your wedding with a sober mind. In our post, we'll look at some top tips that will enable you to achieve this elusive calm.

Lay out your dress and accessories

Your wedding gown and beauty accessories are critical tools you will need to look “wow” on your joyous day. Therefore, lay them out so that your photographer does not disturb you to make hasty adjustments while taking those memorable photos of you as you leave your parents’ house.

Get to bed early

If you want to enjoy the morning of your marriage ceremony, get to sleep early and be in a relaxed mood on the eve of your wedding. The reason for this is that a good night's sleep will help in calming down your excitement and keep your mind relaxed all through the night as you count hours and minutes to say, “Yes I do.”

Getting good rest is not just for your wedding day. You may want to check out these top tips to get your beauty rest. The age-old idea of having a bachelor/bachelorette party the night before your wedding is bad news for you, your future spouse and your family. Stay focused and enjoy the biggest day of your life.

Spoil yourself

Top tips to keep you relaxed on your wedding morning

Another tip to help you remain relaxed on your auspicious day is spoiling yourself that morning. You can have a warm bath with oil, and if you want to take it a notch higher, you could add some soft flower petals.

Additionally, you can switch on your favorite music and light candles to create a soothing and romantic atmosphere. If you have challenges along the way that make your day look impossible, switch on your favorite soft music to give you that much-needed strength to go on. This way, you will focus your mind on the fact that the big day has finally arrived and you can celebrate every part of it without worrying about what lies outside the doors of your parents’ house or your single home.

Eat Well

Do you want to remain focused and relaxed on your wedding day? Then you need to pay attention to what you eat on that beautiful and memorable morning. You need to pamper yourself with your favorite breakfast to take you through to the last hour. You should also avoid meals that can make you feel bloated should your nerves get to you. For example, some scrambled eggs, fruit, coffee and water throughout the day would be a great choice. Fried foods and a 16 oz rare steak - not so much.

Get a quick workout

If you want to get your mind ready for the greatest day of your life, you have to take time in the early hours of the morning to do some basic workouts. Since a good workout is a proven way to release pressure and stress, you'll be able to approach the big hour calm, relaxed, and without jitters.

Go offline

Anyone living in this digital era knows just how destructive the phone and the social media can be. On this auspicious day, it would behoove you to switch off your phone and internet connection to avoid incoming messages and phone calls that can steal your joy and peace of mind on that day. At the very least, hand your phone to your maid of honor or a trusted friend and put them in charge of communication and basic decision making.

I can't stress this one enough.

Maintain order

Tips to keep you relaxed on your wedding morning

If you want to avoid falling into unnecessary stress and jitters, you should remain organized up to the very last detail. It is necessary for you to place everything in its rightful place and condition so that when the morning comes, you do not stress yourself trying to find this or that item. If a disorderly situation arises, you can rest assured that you will get angry, distressed, and walk down the aisle in the wrong mood.

Surround yourself with loving and caring people

Last and most important, you should surround yourself with strong, loving, caring people on your wedding morning. Nothing will keep you strong like knowing you have people around you who have your best interests at heart. If your parents are available, you should take advantage of that limited window as they see their “child” or “baby girl” in their home for the last time as she becomes “Mrs.” Remember, the most important person in this equation is your future husband, who is excited to be your "rock", to calm you, and to give you as much as love as possible leading up to the last hour.

Remaining calm and sober on your wedding day morning is absolutely necessary for the success of your marriage ceremony. If you can take some care to implement these tips into your wedding morning preparation, you will have controlled almost everything that you can by yourself, leaving you strength and some piece of mind to deal with the unknown.

The launch pad for New York Fashion Week could not have been better positioned. This year, Opera Carolina created their own show at the New York Couture Fashion Week, giving sustainable fashion enthusiasts an opportunity to see the stunning creations from the Opera Recycles initiative up close and in person. This show gave Opera Carolina an amazing opportunity to showcase Opera Recycles and their commitment to environmental conservation on a national scale. It also gave WarPaint International Creative Director, Jessica Mae an opportunity to showcase a talent often buried behind her core function of executive leadership and bridal application. And showcase she did...

Opera Carolina and WarPaint International Beauty Agency team up to deliver bold, striking looks to compliment opera-based recycle-design sustainable dresses.

Pagliacci

Pagliacci is an Italian opera in a prologue and two acts, with music and libretto by Ruggero Leoncavallo. It is the only Leoncavallo opera that is still widely performed. This look was specifically curated to create the feel and emotion of the proverbial tragic clown.

Rigoletto

Rigoletto is an opera in three acts by Giuseppe Verdi. The Italian libretto was written by Francesco Maria Piave based on the play Le roi s'amuse by Victor Hugo. Despite serious initial problems with the Austrian censors who had control over northern Italian theaters at the time, the opera had a triumphant premiere at La Fenice in Venice on 11 March 1851.

La Traviata

La Traviata, (The Fallen Woman) is an opera in three acts by Giuseppe Verdi set to an Italian libretto by Francesco Maria Piave. It is based on La Dame aux Camélias (1852), a play adapted from the novel by Alexandre Dumas, fils. The opera was originally titled Violetta, after the main character. It was first performed on 6 March 1853 at the La Fenice opera house in Venice.

I Dream

I DREAM is a largely through-sung musical drama – sometimes referred to as a “Rhythm & Blues Opera” – based on the life of a preacher from Atlanta. The full production features a cast of up to 25 actors and a 15-piece orchestra playing a dynamic fusion of musical forms – from the operatic, to gospel, blues, and jazz to contemporary – evoking the epic scale of a man’s life story, as well as the deeply moving episodes along the way.

Girl of the West

La fanciulla del West (The Girl of the West) is an opera in three acts by Giacomo Puccini to an Italian libretto by Guelfo Civinini and Carlo Zangarini, based on the play The Girl of the Golden West by the American author David Belasco. Fanciulla followed Madama Butterfly, which was also based on a Belasco play. The opera has fewer of the show-stopping highlights that are characteristic of other Puccini works but is admired for its impressive orchestration and for a score that is more melodically integrated than is typical of his previous work.

The Barber of Seville

The Barber of Seville, (or The Useless Precaution) is an opera buffa in two acts by Gioachino Rossini with an Italian libretto by Cesare Sterbini. The première of Rossini's opera (under the title Almaviva, o sia L'inutile precauzione) took place on 20 February 1816 at the Teatro Argentina, Rome. Even after two hundred years, it remains one of the greatest masterpieces of comedy within music.

Madama Butterfly

Madama Butterfly is an opera in three acts (originally two) by Giacomo Puccini, with an Italian libretto by Luigi Illica and Giuseppe Giacosa. It is based on the short story "Madame Butterfly" (1898) by John Luther Long, which in turn was based on stories told to Long by his sister Jennie Correll and on the semi-autobiographical 1887 French novel Madame Chrysanthème by Pierre Loti.

Cyrano

Cyrano is an opera in four acts composed by Walter Damrosch to an English language libretto by William James Henderson based on Edmond Rostand's play, Cyrano de Bergerac. Romeo & Juliet

Romeo and Juliet is a tragedy written by William Shakespeare early in his career about two young star-crossed lovers whose deaths ultimately reconcile their feuding families. It was among Shakespeare's most popular plays during his lifetime and along with Hamlet, is one of his most frequently performed plays. Today, the title characters are regarded as archetypal young lovers.

Rusalka

Rusalka is an opera ('lyric fairy tale') by Antonín Dvořák. The Czech libretto was written by the poet Jaroslav Kvapil (1868–1950) based on the fairy tales of Karel Jaromír Erben and Božena Němcová. A Rusalka is a water sprite from Slavic mythology, usually inhabiting a lake or river. Rusalka is one of the most successful Czech operas, and represents a cornerstone of the repertoire of Czech opera houses.

The Marriage of Figaro

The Marriage of Figaro (Italian: Le nozze di Figaro) is an opera buffa (comic opera) in four acts composed in 1786 by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, with an Italian libretto written by Lorenzo Da Ponte. It premiered at the Burgtheater in Vienna on 1 May 1786. The opera's libretto is based on a stage comedy by Pierre Beaumarchais, La folle journée, ou le Mariage de Figaro ("The Mad Day, or The Marriage of Figaro"), which was first performed in 1784. It tells how the servants Figaro and Susanna succeed in getting married, foiling the efforts of their philandering employer Count Almaviva to seduce Susanna and teaching him a lesson in fidelity.

Makeup Secrets Of Serena Williams

It never hurts to look to popular celebrities for makeup and beauty inspiration, and in this brief post, we’re going to take a look at the soon-to-be most radiant mother in the sports world. Serena Williams is currently missing the U.S. Open expecting the birth of her first child. In fact, as of the time of this writing, she’s in labor! But last we saw her she looked as stylish and beautiful as ever.

Makeup Secrets of Serena Williams

Williams has been about as dominant a sporting personality as we’ve seen in the last 20 years or so. At the outset of the 2017 tennis season, she was picked to lead the pack at the Australian Open and indeed wound up winning. Little did we know at the time that she was already pregnant! That about says it all regarding the type of athletic force Williams has come to represent. But throughout her illustrious career on the courts, she’s also defined herself with bold styles and seemingly effortless beauty.

Her Makeup Secrets

The tennis star has never been shy about playing the role of beauty icon or model, even if her main focus has remained relentlessly on athletic achievement. And during the 2016 U.S. Open we got some interesting insights into her routine thanks to an interview with her makeup artist, one Natasha Gross of Miami. The interview was conducted by New Beauty, and here we’ll mention a few of the key takeaways.

Gross opened up by discussing her love of NARS products for Williams’s editorial shoots (of which she does quite a few, naturally). The French-based cosmetics company has a full line of products, though Gross singled out the foundations and concealers as her favorites, and credited them with bringing out the luminosity to Williams’s skin – one of the features that are often highlighted with regard to her appearance.

The interview also covered the notion that Williams’s lifestyle could conceivably have negative effects on her skin. Indeed, rigorous athletic activity, sweat, and a lot of sun exposure can all be difficult to overcome in this regard! But here, Gross mostly referred to Williams’s dietary habits as reasons why her skin has never appeared to be anything less than flawless. To hear a career makeup artist simply say that eating healthy and staying hydrated makes the biggest difference is a nice reminder to all of us – even if we aren’t out chasing tennis titles for our professional lives!

Makeup Secrets of Serena Williams

And as a final point of interest, Gross actually seems to support a minimalist approach in general. Asked about Williams’s frequent smoky eye appearance on the courts, Gross simply said that the athlete does her own makeup for matches, focusing primarily on eyeliner and high SPF. Similarly, for red carpet appearances, it’s minimal eye shadow, lashes, and contouring. Given how striking Williams tends to look in general, this is a nice endorsement for the idea of achieving a great effect with relatively little product. Of course, Williams’s natural beauty comes into play a great deal as well. But mostly, her looks seem to come down to healthy skin and a few strategic touches!

Hair & Makeup Trend Collection: Fall/Winter 2017

This fall and winter season we are seeing the return of bold berry lips and jewel toned eyes. The colder months are a great time to experiment with your bold colors that you typically wouldn’t use in the spring or summer.

Fall/Winter Hair and Makeup Trends

The Inspiration Behind the Makeup.

This fall and winter season we are seeing the return of bold berry lips and jewel toned eyes. The colder months are a great time to experiment with your bold colors that you typically wouldn’t use in the spring or summer.

So if you haven’t yet, bust out that palette that you have not used and play around! Also this season we see the no-makeup makeup look sticking around. I personally love this as a soft everyday natural beauty look. You can easily amp the look up with a bold lip for a date night or after work events. Monochromatic looks are here to stay as well, this is a hot trend right now and easily achieved by anyone.

The inspiration behind the hair

WarPaint Director of Education, Katie Rote, designed the hair looks for this year's fall/winter trend collection. As a collective group, we took the approach of thinking about this fall/winter season as an opportunity to stand out from the crowd and to showcase some simple ideas that fire up your inner girl boss and self-confidence, regardless of your age or occasion.

My Inspiration for the hair was to create looks that can give a complete change to the your appearance by creating faux bangs or adding embellished head bands or scarves.
— Katie Rote

With the holidays approaching, these are great styles that will have you standing out! They'll add elegance and sass to any party you may be attending without having to commit to a full hair change. Holiday festivities, here we come!

3 Top Trending Wedding Makeup Looks

When thinking about what style of makeup you are going for, the way in which you communicate to your artist is essential. Here are the top 3 trending wedding makeup looks and my recommendation on how to acheive them.

There is so much that goes into planning your wedding. The venue, Photographer, Flowers, THE Dress, etc. When it comes time to think about what you want your wedding makeup looks to be for the big day, there is SO much to think about. Not to mention the countless photos on Pinterest, Instagram and Google. Where to begin?

When thinking about what style of makeup you are going for, the way in which you communicate to your artist is essential.
— Jessica Mae

My recommendation is to stay true to who you are. Really think about what your personal style is, and make your goal to accentuate that. Too often I hear about brides who go against what they truly want, and where their comfort zone truly lies. Now, if you are someone who wants to do something different and out of your comfort zone, by all means, go for it girl!

When thinking about what style of makeup you are going for, the way that you communicate to your makeup artist is essential. Having photos of inspiration is a great starting point, but also knowing what you want and using the right terms to describe it will lend to the success of the look.

I am here to help! I have broken down 3 Top Trending Wedding Makeup Looks to aid in not only narrowing down the look you want, but also being able to then communicate that to your artist.

On to the wedding makeup looks!

Natural

For ladies that want to slightly enhance their natural beauty, keeping your makeup look simple is the way to go. This is what most brides ask their artists for, but knowing what natural makeup means to an artist versus you is very important. Coming prepared with photos is key. When this makeup look is requested it is also helpful to have a photo of yourself with your daily makeup done. This way it gives your artist a gauge of what you're used to - if anything at all.

Knowing what natural makeup means to an artist versus you is very important.

When a natural makeup look is requested I recommend airbrush foundation as it tends to look more like your actual skin and is lightweight while still giving nice coverage. When requesting this look from your artist it is helpful to use descriptive words like; fresh, glowy (if you like a glowy look), not over done, myself but slightly enhanced.

Pro tip: When thinking about lashes for a natural look, ask your artist about individual lashes or a half strip lash.

You, but a little more than your every day.

I love this look for brides who want to have a hint of glam, but not too much. This type of makeup look is great for clients who want more than their every day look, but still would like to look like themselves. For me, what makes a look romantic is adding lashes and a little hint of smokiness to the shadow. This makeup look works for any type of venue or time of year. When requesting this look from your artist it is helpful to use descriptive words like; medium spicy, natural glam, romantic.

Pro Tip: For an extra pop, have your artist use shadows with some shimmer to them!

Glam

Full on bold and spicy! Glam looks are great for clients who love to wear makeup and want to make a statement with their look. If you're considering this look you can count on a bold lip, a smokey eye, some contouring (or sculpting which I prefer to call it) and of course lashes! I typically see brides request this type of look if they have a Fall, Winter or evening wedding, but the Glam bride can rock this look any time she wants. When requesting this look from your artist it is helpful to use descriptive words like; sassy, sexy, bold.

Pro Tip: Take your look to the next level by adding wings to your eye liner!

Glam

For those not afraid to make a statement.

Whatever style of makeup you decide on, make sure it makes you feel like your most beautiful self. Too often I have brides in my chair who are easily influenced by others (ahem... Mother of the Bride and sisters...) of what they think the bride should have for makeup. Remember, you're the one getting married - not them.

One last piece of advice...

Keep in mind when you are looking for inspiration images... any image you find online is likely edited. Some more so than others, but they are all edited. It is also a good idea to find photos where the person in it has similar features to you. Having realistic expectations not only sets you up for success but your artist as well.

Essential Makeup Tips For Tweens

When I started wearing makeup, my mom took me to the makeup counter at Macy’s where a trained professional helped me build my first makeup bag with items that were fun and exciting for me to try, but that didn’t make me look like I was 25.

When I started wearing makeup, my mom took me to the makeup counter at Macy’s where a trained professional helped me build my first makeup bag with items that were fun and exciting for me to try, but that didn’t make me look like I was 25.

Mascara is a staple item to keep in your makeup bag at all times.

Fast forward to our world today…Instagram, YouTube and Pinterest have elevated society’s view of beauty and are infiltrating the mind of our youth. My goal is to give you some essential makeup tips for tweens to help them build their first makeup bag with great products that are fun and easy to use, and won’t make them look overdone.

A Cute Makeup Bag

This is the first essential item every gal needs. It's important to have a clean, dry place to store your makeup. This will help keep your makeup "clean" and also last longer if you store it somewhere dry. Humidity and heat are makeup's enemy as those environment are a breading ground for bacteria and also will speed up the expiration. There are many places you can find a cute makeup bag for your Tween, but Target is one of my favorites. They have a great selection and the prices are affordable as well.

makeup-bags-15.jpg

A must have!

This is one of my personal favorites.

Mascara

Mascara is a staple item to keep in your makeup bag at all times. It's a quick, easy way to enhance your beauty. For Tweens, I like the Covergirl LashBlast Volume. It's an easy formula to work with and the silicone applicator makes it easy to apply for beginners. Bonus - The price point is palatable for parents.

  • Pro Tip:  to avoid clumps apply thin layers of the mascara at a time and build as you go.

Quality Brushes Are Key

The right tools for the job are an essential part of the success of your makeup application. One of my favorite brands is Sigma Beauty. They are SUPER high quality and the price point for what you get is not bad at all.

Pro Tip: Brush maintenance is super important. Plan on washing your brushes once per week. For a deep clean use Sigma’s brush shampoo and cleaning gadgets.

Bronzer!

Bronzer is another staple product I recommend having in your makeup bag at all times. A good quality bronzer should give you a sun-kissed glow - not make you look like an extra in Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory.

My favorite bronzer for Tweens and ladies of all ages is from Benefit Cosmetics. Hoola is the perfect shade for almost any gal and does not contain any shimmer, which in my opinion is key!

Pro Tip: use a fan-tail brush to apply to ensure you don’t get too much product in one place.

The No Makeup, Makeup look

Beach in a Box!

Sweep on with a fan tail brush to get glowing in seconds.

Gloss it up

Finally, in our essential makeup tips for tweens, my favorite cosmetic item to round out a beginner's kit is a fun lipgloss. One of my favorites is Posie Balm from Benefit Cosmetics (I like Benefit if you can't already tell). It adds just a subtle pop of color and is both youthful and fun. This gloss also hydrates and conditions the lips leaving them soft. Benefit has a few other shades in this formula as well. Try them all!

The perfect lip balm for tweens

The perfect pink gloss

Add a pop of color and a little shine.

Removal

Makeup removal is a key element! Did you know that for every night you do not take your makeup off you age your skin by 7 days?! Crazy!

I'm not a huge fan of use remover wipes night after night, I found that it's hard on my lashes and skin over time. My absolute favorite makeup remover is from One Love Organics. It's a little more spendy, but totally worth it and lasts a long time. Pump one pump into your hands, rub together then massage over you entire face and eyes. Your makeup will slide right off and it leaves your skin soft, without any oily residue left behind. This is a great product for Tweens and Adults!

  • Pro Tip: Coconut oil is also a great makeup remover!

Remember, less is more! At the end of the day, I want makeup beginners to know that makeup should not define you. Makeup should be something that is fun and makes you feel great. It should not be something you need in order to feel relevant or beautiful. After all, what is on the inside is what counts. Cliché I know, but it's true. In a world filled with misinformation on what the definition of beauty is, I felt it was important to share some real tips on how to get started with makeup. I hope you enjoyed!

Fallyn and Grant’s Dreamy Hinterland Wedding

A classic old world vintage Gatsby feel, Peonies imported from Paris and a rescued owl as the ring bearer. Nothing could more romantic than this dreamy Hinterland wedding.

Real Wedding Submissions

Fallyn and Grant’s Dreamy Hinterland Wedding

Location. Location. Location! The couple wed at the charming Maleny Manor in the Sunshine Coast Hinterlands.  Not every wedding submission gets published by WarPaint International, but we love to see what brides and grooms are doing around the world. Fallyn and Grant's wedding caught the eye of our Founders, Samuel J and Jessica Mae Koza for two reasons - their love of Gatsby inspired events and the importance and the symbolism of the beloved raptor owl, which brings us to the next point.

Fallyn had a very special guest in their wedding - Luna the owl. She had contacted a not-for-profit organization who's mission is to save ex-zoo animals; she had the owl brought in as a special surprise for their guests. Read on to see how this very special wedding played out for Fallyn, Grant, and their guests.

The Story

How did you and your partner meet?

My husband and I met in high school. I was new to town and we were introduced to each other by my family. It was love at first sight, quite cute really.

How did he propose?

We were sailing on a private gondola in the Gold Coast Qld, after dinner he proposed at sunset with Moet champagne and a dozen red roses.

Real Wedding Submissions: Fallyn and Grant's Dreamy Hinterland Wedding

How did you choose your wedding gown?

After trying on countless dresses and even purchasing one, I went with my best friend, one of my bridesmaids, to a little store in Adelaide and secretly tried on a dress. We both instantly knew it was the one. My good friend (and owner) at The Big Day Sarina arranged for my purchased dress to be exchanged for the gorgeous vintage laced gown I had fallen in love with. To this very day, I am still so completely grateful.

What sort of style did you envision for your wedding day?

I wanted a classic old world vintage Gatsby feel. I had to be surrounded by flowers, I wanted soft pinks, lavenders and whites with accents of gold. Love Bird Weddings and Mondo Flowers worked together perfectly in creating a timeless elegance that is captured beautifully in Calli B photography's images of the day.

I initially had my heart set on Peonies but as it turns out, they were out of season for my wedding! However, my florist had organized French Peonies to be imported from Paris as a special surprise on my wedding day! From the simple floral styling (flowers were everywhere, my one very insistent request) along the aisle and a fantastic rose and wood arbour that surrounded us, the glass house mountains off in the distance we said our I do's in the most romantic fashion. Our day was highlighted by little style ideas, thought up over 2 years of planning, right down to the red gumboots I wore for our location shots (it had rained that morning and I wasn't risking my Louboutin’s, plus it shows off my country bumpkin upbringing in perfect humor).

What was your favorite moment from the day?

There were so many very special moments, created by my amazing team of suppliers and our wonderful family but I think the quiet moments with my family and friends getting ready, my husband and I standing at the alter in a bubble of love and our grandparents being a big part of the celebration were my most beloved moments. We sadly lost my husband’s Nanna recently so these moments shared with our loved ones are very cherished. We had the room surrounded with wedding photos of our grandparents and loved ones who had passed, it added a truly lovely touch to our special day.

Were there any DIY decor elements?

My best friend made our stick masks themed in my husband’s favorite marvel comic characters that people used as props throughout the night and I made the menus and ceremony order of events.

If you could do it all over again, what would you change?

Nothing, except making the day even longer! It was the most perfectly planned wedding and ran without a glitch because of my carefully selected and highly recommended team of suppliers which I cannot recommend enough, as they really make your day.

Also, a special mention to my family who went above and beyond for us and my friends who supported us through the lead-up, thanks to them the whole day was perfect.

Any tips you can give to future brides?

  • Stay true to what you as a couple want. Everyone has opinions and while they are often are valid, listen to advice but don't live by it, as it's your day.
  • Don't skimp on the photographer!
  • Most importantly write a list of what's been most important for your wedding from your own experiences as a guest at others, stick to that list and trust your suppliers, as it's their job to bring it all together for you on the day. Let go of the reigns the week before, really let your hair down and spend time with your friends and family because trust me when I tell you that it's over before you know it so really embrace and enjoy every single moment including the lead up to it.

Anything else you'd like to add?

I actually had the privilege of working with a not-for-profit organization called Raptor Vision based in Sunshine Coast, QLD who are a wonderful animal rescue group. The guys behind this were retired Australia Zoo Raptor trainers who rescue and care for local birds. To fund the cost of caring for the animals, they trained one of their owls to deliver wedding bands. Luna the Owl surprised our guests as our ring bearer for the ceremony.

5 Things You Need to Know About Spray Tanning For Your Wedding

Not all sunless solutions are created equal. There is a big difference between an automatic spray booth and a handheld custom spray tan, so be choosy when deciding where to get your custom wedding glow.

Update October 2020!

Visit GoGlow Edina for your sunless tanning experience and receive 20% off your service. Just mention that you found them by way of WarPaint International. Applies to new customers only!

Wedding Day Spray Tan. Good Idea or Bad Idea?

Good idea. Sure you've heard the horror stories... But like anything in life (specifically in the personal services sector) there are options to cut corners, and then there are options to ensure a flawless and luxurious experience that provides beautiful results. So we've enlisted Ali Ericksen of goGlow to talk to us about the Top 5 things you need to know about getting a Sunless Tan for your wedding. But first, check out the CBS Local segment that featured goGlow's sunless tans on our Bridal models for "Get Movin' Monday: Top Spring Fashion Wedding Trends"

Ali Lucia talks with Jessica Mae, founder of War Paint International, and Katie Rote, who is their director of education (6:40). WCCO This Morning - April 17, 2017

Automatic spray booth vs. Custom spray tan

There is a big difference between an automatic spray booth and a handheld custom spray tan. An automatic spray booth uses the same amount of solution and the same color solution regardless of the individual tanning. There is no way for the automatic machine to accurately follow the lines of your body for an even application. At goGLOW, every service is done by a highly trained and specialized professional. Each goGLOW is customized to the individual’s body, skin tone, and desired result.

In addition, not all sunless solutions are created equal. Low-grade solution found in automatic booths can contribute to an orange, streaky color. For natural looking results it is important to choose a provider who uses quality ingredients. At goGLOW, we carry only the highest-grade sunless solutions and products that are naturally derived with eco-certified DHA. They are paraben, sulfate, gluten and cruelty-free (as well as being vegan).

Don't look to social media

Be choosy when deciding where to get your custom wedding glow. First, take a look at a company’s Instagram and social media. They should be displaying pictures of real people and real brides representing their actual wedding day tan. Take a look at the color, evenness and tricky areas like hands and feet. Be wary of companies that filter images to alter the look of the tan. Check out reviews on Yelp and Google+.

Always talk to other brides and bridal shops, as it’s always nice to get a first-hand referral from a source you can trust. Lastly, look at the company’s accolades and seals of approval. goGLOW is the only sunless provider in MN that has received a 5-star rating in Allure Magazine, was listed as one of “the best spray tans from NYC to LA” and recognized with the coveted Allure “Best of Beauty Award”.

Book a trial run before your wedding

Book a trial run before the big day. Like many other wedding day beauty services, you’ll want peace of mind knowing exactly what to expect come your wedding day. At goGLOW we have mastered The Bridal Glow while ensuring we are still providing our clients a custom, professional experience. In order to ensure that your custom color and wedding day goGLOW is flawless, we recommend booking a trial tan at least 3 weeks before the big day. At your trial tan appointment, we get to know you and your color preferences, while finding the perfect shade for your skin tone and type. We will also discuss your skin care routine and regimen to provide insight on how you can incorporate the most natural products available for healthier skin leading to a flawless wedding glow. Keep in mind it’s also a good idea to schedule your spray tan a day or two before your trial makeup sessions. This way your wedding day makeup artist can match your glowy skin tone to perfection!

Natural. Not orange!

Your wedding day glow should look natural. Trust us, the perfect wedding glow is only a shade or two darker than your natural skin tone. You don’t want to look like you just got back from your honeymoon on your wedding day! That dress will be much whiter than you had remembered...

Level the playing field

Your significant other and bridal party should join in too! You certainly don’t want to be the only one in photos rocking a healthy glow while the rest of your party looks washed out in your expensive wedding day photography. Or even worse, a dreaded orange hue. Getting the entire party together for spray tanning is not only a fun pre-wedding event but will ensure everyone has an even glow and radiates confidence for beautiful wedding photography.
